REPORT on the general meeting of the members of the International Society for Medical Robotics

On 16/06/2014 a general meeting of members of the International Association for Medical Robotics was held.
The meeting was preceded by a seminar. For the first time ISMR seminar 'Advances in Medical Robotics' has been organized to discuss and assess the progress of work on medical robots of the research teams represented by ISMR members and to talk about the risk, hazard and development of this field.

I ISMR 2014 Seminar "Advances in Medical Robotics"

Zbigniew Nawrat: Opportunities and risk for the medical robotics development.

Jacek Cieslik: Different approaches to path generation for surgical multi-member tools.

Richard Leniowski, Lucyna Leniowska: ROCH 2 surgery robot report.

After a two-hour scientific seminar we moved on to the core matters of the Association.

There was a sufficient number of participants to make all planned decisions.

ISMR President Zbigniew Nawrat presented a report on the activities of the Association in 2013, Waldemar Pudlo economic part and Dominik Pawliski respectively ? supervisor part of ISMR report.

The Association has 30 members for 28 March 2014

Measures to promote medical robotics and Society

1. Active Association bilingual website The site includes basic information about the Association, contact details information, statute of the organization, authorities and also an invitation to join the Association, along with the possibility of membership declaration.

2. The Journal of the Association - Medical Robotics Reports

a) The journal published by the Association was placed on the list of scientific journals index scored by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education - 1 point.
On the website indicated below it can be found at position 1367.

b) The journal will be placed on the list of the Copernicus IC Journals Master Index.

c) The journal is available on the website:

d) in 2013 a new issue of the journal Medical Robotics Reports volume 2 ISSN 2299-7407 was published.

3. Promotion and Education:

Our Society co-organized two conferences:

BioMedTech International Conference

Association co-organized an international conference BioMedTech International, it was organized in Rzeszw on 15-16 March 2013.

Member of the Society, Professor Mrs. Lucyna Leniowska was actively involved in BioMedTech conference, which this time was held in Rzeszw.

Thanks to organizational support an extremely interesting Medical Robots session was prepared, Moreover, Professor Kevin Warwick of Reading University, one of the world leaders in medical robotics, was invited to the conference.

Additionally a remarkable series of books, series dedicated to medical robotics, biomedical engineering and ethical issues were released.

Conference on Medical Robots / Medical Robotics 2013

In 2013 the Association for the third time together with Prof. Zbigniew Religa Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development co-organized, the only in Poland, international specialized conference, Medical Robotics.

For the eleventh time the scientists, engineers, constructors and users of medical robots met in the Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development, to exchange experience and discuss progress and prospects in this area and what changes medical robotics can bring and cause in health care, affecting more effective and less invasive treatment of patients and their rehabilitation.

2013 RobMed conference (13 December 2013) was held with the participation of distinguished Polish and foreign guests. A new feature was introduced - an invitation to scientists and doctors dealing with biological methods of rescuing heart to join the discussion among medical robotics enthusiasts. The program of the conference included a panel dedicated to the use of stem cells to treat heart disease, which is a subject of scientific work carried out together with Silesian Center for Heart Diseases, Institute of Oncology in Gliwice and the Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development.

The best representatives of the younger generation were awarded statuettes of Robin (Jury Prize) and Robin Arrows (audience award) for their contribution to the development of robotics. For them RobinClub was constituted - an initiative of the International Society for Medical Robotics open to young robotics hobbyists. The Society also wants to pay attention to issues related to the design and ergonomics of robots, by organizing in the future Academy of Arts Medical Robots.

During the Conference the following young scientists were awarded:

Robin Arrows - Audience Award ? went to Kamil Rohr, a researcher from the Prof. Zbigniew Religa Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development. in Zabrze.

Statue of Robin - the main prize of the Jury of the International Association for Medical Robotics - went to ukasz Mucha, PhD student from Silesian University of Technology.

Members of the ISMR were honored by the Scientific Council of the Prof. Zbigniew Religa Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development and were awarded the prof. Zbigniew Religa Scientific Prize in the field of bioengineering.

The above award was granted to the editorial team consisted of:

- Prof. dr. Eng. Lucyna Leniowska, Department of Mechatronics and Automation
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Rzeszw,

- Prof. dr. Alexander Bobko, Department of Cultural Anthropology, Institute of Sociology at the University of Rzeszw,

- Assoc. Zbigniew Nawrat, Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development
for a series of monographs:

? L. Leniowska, Z. Nawrat (ed.), "Advances in Biomedical Engineering", University of Rzeszow, Rzeszow 2013, ISBN 978-83-63151-02-7.

? L. Leniowska, Z. Nawrat (ed.), "Advances in medical robotics", "Advances in medical robotics", University of Rzeszw, Rzaeszw 2013, ISBN: 978-83-63151-04-1.

? Alexander Bobko (ed.), "Ethics of contemporary challenges: selected aspects." University of Rzeszow, Rzeszow 2013, ISBN 978-83-7667-137-6.

In a secret ballot, participants of the General Meeting accepted the report of the Management Board and kept the board unchanged for the next year.

It was arranged/ agreed that the next Medical Robots Conference 2014 will be held on 12-13 December 2014. On the first day, the scientific conference is planned, next the meeting of the Academy of Medical Robotics Design Art - named Academy of ISMR. With the support of the University of Rzeszw and personally Mrs. Professor Lucyna Leniowski after the conference we will release another book - Advances in Medical Robotics 2

I would like to pay special attention to a new ISMR's initiative - Academy of ISMR. We intend to bring together specialists in many fields of science - from psychology and sociology through industrial design specialists and other fine arts to users' representatives - medicine and general medical services.

We want to learn how to design medical robots, which are useful and beautiful, to meet the social expectations.
